Since I have csection babies and can't lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for 6 weeks, our kids have to transition from the crib to their big beds earlier than some other parents move theirs. Brooklyn was about 21 months when she moved and adjusted very quickly. Trenton just turned 19 months today so I wasn't sure how it was going to go. Not only was he moved out of the crib, but he now has to share a room with Brooklyn so the baby can have the nursery.
Here is his big boy bed! I am not a fan of toddler beds, mainly because they grow out of them so fast. We moved Brooklyn directly to a twin, but there was no way we'd fit 2 twin beds, 2 dressers, a toy box, laundry hamper and the toy organizer in her room... and I'm not ready for bunk beds so toddler bed it is!
It fits perfectly in Brooklyn's room and still leaves an area on the floor for play time.
Kurt set it all up in the morning, but I wanted Trenton to have one last nap in his crib (so I could get a good nap too). Here he was checking it out for the first time. He was so excited!
Brooklyn was supposed to be napping in her bed, but she said she had to test out Trenton's new bed first. I caught her fast asleep in his spot.
Then it was bedtime... Trenton was still super excited about it. I was preparing for a really LONG night. He really did surprise me though.
Practicing climbing in and out...
OK... has his monkey and is ready to go! I tucked him in, closed the door and of course he started to cry. Lasted about 15 minutes and then he quieted down. He kept climbing out and I'd just tell him to go back to bed. He was almost asleep when Brooklyn was ready for bed so of course then he wanted to play. I could hear them talking to each other for quite a while, and finally about 10:45 they were both out. (He normally goes to bed at 7:30).
I didn't hear another peep all night long! I went in to check on them around 3am and he was still fast asleep. Didn't even bother him that I was snapping a picture :) The only bad part was that he woke up at 7:20 instead of 9:00 like he normally does. He didn't cry or anything, just banged on the door until he woke Brooklyn up to open it for him, then they both went to play in the loft until I came out.
I thought nap time would be rough today and he literally cried for less than a minute then I heard him climb into bed and 5 minutes later I opened the door and he was sound asleep. He took his usual 3 hour nap and woke up happy. When it was time for bed tonight, I put him down, shut the door and there was only 15 seconds of crying before he climbed back in bed. He talked for a little bit then was sound asleep when I took Brooklyn in an hour later. Even though she was a bit louder than I would have liked, he didn't wake up at all.
He really is my BIG boy now! No more baby crib for this dude :)
